What dua should I recite before an exam?

The best dua before exams is Prophet Musa's prayer: 'Rabbi ishrah li sadri, wa yassir li amri' — My Lord, expand my chest and ease my task (Quran 20:25-28). Rabbi ishrah li sadri, wa yassir li amri, wahlul 'uqdatan min lisani, yafqahu qawli

My Lord, expand my chest for me, ease my task for me, and remove the impediment from my tongue so that they may understand my speech.

When to recite: Before starting to study or before entering an exam hall. This was Prophet Musa's (AS) dua when given a difficult task.

Quran 20:114

رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Rabbi zidni 'ilma

My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

When to recite: Anytime, especially before studying. Short, powerful, and easy to memorise. Allah commanded the Prophet ﷺ to make this dua.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فَهْمَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَحِفْظَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ

اللَّهُمَّ لَا سَهْلَ إِلَّا مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلًا وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلًا

Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja'altahu sahla, wa anta taj'al al-hazna idha shi'ta sahla

O Allah, there is nothing easy except what You make easy, and You can make grief easy if You wish.

When to recite: Before a difficult exam or when facing a challenging topic. Ask Allah to make it easy for you.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَوْدِعُكَ مَا قَرَأْتُ وَمَا حَفِظْتُ فَرُدَّهُ إِلَيَّ عِنْدَ حَاجَتِي إِلَيْهِ إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Allahumma inni astawdi'uka ma qara'tu wa ma hafiztu, faruddahu ilayya 'inda hajati ilayhi, innaka 'ala kulli shay'in qadir

O Allah, I entrust You with what I have read and memorised. Return it to me when I am in need of it. Verily You have power over all things.
