☝️ Sunnah Bedtime Routine: The Prophet ﷺ would perform wudu, dust off the bed three times, lie on his right side, place his right hand under his cheek, and recite the following adhkar before sleeping.
🌙 Duas & Adhkar Before Sleeping
1
Bukhari
بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya
In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.
When to recite: The first thing to say when lying down to sleep. Sleep is called the "minor death" — we entrust ourselves to Allah.
Allahu la ilaha illa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum, la ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm, lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard...
Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth...
When to recite: Recite the full Ayatul Kursi (2:255) before sleep. The Prophet ﷺ said: "A guardian will be appointed to protect you and no devil will come near you till morning." (Bukhari)
Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad... Qul A'udhu bi Rabbil-Falaq... Qul A'udhu bi Rabbin-Nas...
Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas (112), Surah Al-Falaq (113), and Surah An-Nas (114) — three times each.
When to recite: The Prophet ﷺ would cup his hands, blow into them, recite these three surahs, then wipe his hands over his body starting from head and face — three times. (Bukhari)
O Allah, I submit my soul to You, entrust my affair to You, turn my face to You, and lay myself down depending on You, in hope and fear of You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.
When to recite: The Prophet ﷺ said: "If you die that night, you die upon the fitrah (natural disposition/Islam)." Make these the last words you say before sleeping. (Bukhari)
SubhanAllah (33x), Alhamdulillah (33x), Allahu Akbar (34x)
Glory be to Allah (33), Praise be to Allah (33), Allah is the Greatest (34) — total 100.
When to recite: The Prophet ﷺ told Fatima (RA) to recite this before sleep instead of asking for a servant. He said: "This is better for you than a servant." (Bukhari)
Alhamdulillahil-ladhi at'amana wa saqana wa kafana wa awana, fakam mimman la kafiya lahu wa la mu'wiya
All praise is for Allah, Who fed us, gave us drink, sufficed us and gave us shelter. How many are those who have no one to suffice them and no one to give them shelter.
When to recite: A beautiful expression of gratitude before sleeping — remembering those less fortunate and thanking Allah for His blessings.
Tabarakal-ladhi biyadihil-mulku wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer...
Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent...
When to recite: Recite the entirety of Surah Al-Mulk (67) before sleeping. The Prophet ﷺ said it intercedes for its reader until they are forgiven. It also protects from the punishment of the grave.
