Find the direction to the Kaaba in Makkah
The Qibla (ุงูููุจูููุฉ) is the direction toward the Kaaba in Masjid al-Haram, Makkah, Saudi Arabia โ the direction that every Muslim faces during their five daily prayers. Facing the Qibla is a condition (shart) for the validity of Salah. All 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide face the same point during prayer, symbolising unity in worship.
The command to face the Qibla is found in the Quran: "ููููููู ููุฌููููู ุดูุทูุฑู ุงููู ูุณูุฌูุฏู ุงููุญูุฑูุงู ู" โ "Turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram" (Quran 2:144). Before Islam, Muslims initially prayed facing Jerusalem (Bayt al-Maqdis), but the Qibla was changed to the Kaaba in the second year of Hijrah.
Muslim Friend's Qibla Finder uses your device's GPS coordinates and the great-circle bearing formula to calculate the shortest path to the Kaaba (ูุงุช. 21.4225ยฐ N, long. 39.8262ยฐ E). The calculation is accurate to within 1โ2 degrees for most locations on Earth. If you don't have GPS access, you can also search by city name.
After finding the Qibla, make sure you have performed Wudu (ablution) before beginning prayer. Learn the full prayer steps in our complete guide: How to Pray in Islam.
