Understanding the Hijri Calendar

The Hijri calendar is the Islamic lunar calendar that began with Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ migration (Hijra) from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE. It consists of 12 months, each 29 or 30 days long, totalling approximately 354–355 days per year — about 10–11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar. This means Islamic events shift earlier each year.
